Sotheby’s is home to prestigious exhibitions, record-breaking auctions, and exceptional works of art. In 2019, the Arts Access Program made waves at the institution with a groundbreaking exhibit of works created exclusively by artists with disabilities. This year, a new group of Arts Access artists joined its legacy.
Arts Access was honored to be invited back to Sotheby’s through its Impact and Social Responsibility initiative. The exhibit, “Art Without Boundaries” represented the depth of talent and creativity of the program, highlighting work by five artists: Jessica Evans, Karen Frascella, Bari Kim Goldrosen, Tammy Heppner, and Paul Santo, as well as a selection of paintings by “rising artists” within the program. From seasoned creators to emerging talents, the lineup reflected the program’s commitment to fostering inclusivity and empowerment through art.
The exhibit was on view from March 29 through April 7, and friends, family, and art lovers alike gathered for a beautiful closing reception on Saturday, April 6. The afternoon kicked off with words from Arts Access Program Director, Eileen Murray, and Matheny President and CEO, Bill Kent. As paintings flew off the walls, collectors had the opportunity to meet the artists and chat about their work. The artists were thrilled to be a part of this important moment as they made their mark on the New York City art world.
By the end of the 10-day exhibit, a total of 12 paintings sold. One collector said that although they are typically drawn to representational art, they felt particularly moved by an abstract Paul Santo piece. “I think it is such a magical painting,” they shared.
“Art Without Boundaries” invited the public to witness the creativity and unabashed exuberance within every paint stroke, form, and line of these artists’ collective works. Thank you to the staff at Sotheby’s, the Matheny Medical and Educational Center leadership, all our supporters, and everyone who came out to make this such a successful event!
