A Fine Art Exhibition at Sotheby’s
Some artists dream of exhibiting their work in New York City. For five talented Arts Access artists, that dream became a reality in this year. The Art of Choice was Arts Access’ premiere exhibit at Sotheby’s in NYC, featuring the acrylic paintings and digital art by Chet Cheesman, Ellen Kane, James Lane, Mike Martin, and Cindy Shanks. This specially curated exhibition provided an opportunity to take a deeper look into the creative legacies of some of Arts Access’ most prolific artists.
Leading up to the event, the excitement was built by several news features, including an article about how the connection between Arts Access and Sotheby’s was made, and another article that took a closer look at the featured artists. When CBS News heard about the exhibit, they filmed an exclusive story about the event and the Arts Access program, which aired shortly after the conclusion of the event.
The exhibit was on view from February 9 through February 11, with a reception on February 10. When the artists arrived that Sunday, they were greeted by adoring fans. The artists were thrilled to see their artwork hanging on the walls at the prestigious auction house and to see all the people who came out to view their work. There was even a group of former Matheny employees who had worked with some of the artists over 40 years ago who came to celebrate the artists’ incredible achievements.
In the end, a total of seventeen paintings sold during the three-day exhibit, which was attended by over 300 people.
The Art of Choice invited the public to witness the innovation and unabashed exuberance within every paint stroke, every form, every line of these artists’ collective works. Together, Chet, Ellen, James, Mike, and Cindy demonstrated their dedication, creativity, and talent in this momentous exhibit. Thank you to the staff at Sotheby’s, the Matheny Medical and Educational Center leadership, all our supporters, and everyone who came out to make this such a successful event!
