A dancer’s first public performance is a thrilling and memorable event, and is now a cherished memory of Arts Access choreographer Nancy Soto! This past weekend, on Saturday, February 11, Nancy presented her dance duet set to Alicia Keys’ song Un-Thinkable at Dance New Jersey’s Show Up & Dance 2023 event.
In addition to creating the choreography, Nancy also performed in her work and was joined by Arts Access facilitator Alyssa Thostesen. The dance featured sweeping patterns, intentional glances, gorgeous arm movements, and Nancy’s signature smile. This was Nancy’s first time taking the stage, but is sure to not be her last! The crowd was very moved by Nancy’s work, and some audience members were even brought to tears. Nancy’s work stood out in a program full of diverse work from across the state and was a strong example of the incredible talents found in the Arts Access Program.
Nancy was supported in the audience by her housemate and fellow Arts Access artist Cheryl Chapin, staff members from the Matheny Basking Ridge Group Home, and a surprise visit from her sister and brother-in-law.
Both Nancy and Alyssa were beautiful onstage, the event and venue were lovely, the show was well run, and Nancy’s expression was priceless! Congratulations to Nancy and everyone involved in this fabulous event.
Nancy’s dance was part of the Young Artists Showcase at Dance New Jersey’s Show Up & Dance 2023 event. It was performed in Studio 1200 at Montclair State University.
