Live theatre enriches our lives, giving us opportunities to connect to other people and see the world through another’s eyes. Arts Access is excited to participate for the eighth time in the New Jersey’s largest celebration of live theater with New Jersey Theatre Alliance’s annual Stages Festival.
Arts Access will once again be presenting Plays By People, featuring staged readings of works from the Arts Access writers and dramatists, performed by professional actors from Premiere Stages at Kean University. And for the first time ever, this year’s event will feature two live performances! One at Arts Access and the other at Kean University. Plays By People will showcase the works in progress by five Arts Access playwrights: Chris Saglimbene, Luis Rodriguez, Mike Cornely, Jess Evans, and Cheryl Chapin. The Arts Access playwrights will all be an integral part of the staging process, directing the actors on how to best present their written work. They will also work with the director to create sound cues and staging.

The Stages Festival is a state-wide spring festival of free and low-cost theatre events including performances, classes, workshops, and play readings. The Stages Festival is designed to showcase the diversity and excellence of New Jersey theatre, to break down barriers of cost and access, and to introduce new audiences to the work of member theatres.
Plays By People is a FREE event, but be sure to RSVP to reserve your seat! To register, click HERE.
The New Jersey Theatre Alliance’s Stages Festival offers dozens of performances, workshops, classes, and events at theatres, art centers, libraries, schools, senior centers, and other community venues throughout the state. The program was developed to encourage New Jersey’s residents to attend their local professional theatres by making the experience affordable, accessible, and fun.
The Festival began as a one-week program for young people and their families. As it grew in popularity, the NJ Theatre Alliance expanded it to a full month of performances, workshops and programs for theatre lovers in all the stages of their lives. The Stages Festival is New Jersey’s largest celebration of live theatre.
This event is part of the New Jersey Theatre Alliance 2023 Stages Festival, made possible by support from the New Jersey State Council on the Arts, a partner agency of the National Endowment for the Arts; The Horizon Foundation for New Jersey; OceanFirst Foundation; Fund for the New Jersey Blind; New Jersey Manufacturers; and Customers Bank.
