Rick Cruz

“I am very proud of myself. I work really hard.”

An enthusiastic new artist, Rick started participating in the Arts Access Program in February 2019. He first came to the program because he liked art but had never done it before. Since then, Rick has discovered an intense love of painting and a passion to explore his budding creativity.

Rick’s creative explorations are firmly rooted in the visual arts. From day one, Rick dove right in to traditional painting and has completed over a dozen works in his first year. He has also started working in digital art and currently has many pieces in progress. Rick likes to work quickly and create in the moment. He loves to use the color green in most of his work and experiment with how it mixes with other colors.

Rick has also demonstrated a fascination with numbers and likes to use the concepts of numbers and counting in his work. He always wants to know exactly how many shapes he has or how many paintings. The number of objects seems to be more important than what the object is or the location of the object. Additionally, Rick has chosen not to title any of his paintings, but instead number them in order of completion.

Rick is really proud of his work and loves to show it off to everyone who comes into the studio. He is pleased with how much he’s already accomplished and the skills he is developing as an artist. Many of his pieces have been gifted to family and friends, and one of Rick’s paintings was even included in the Full Circle 2019 gallery exhibit!

We are thrilled to have Rick join us at Arts Access! It has been so exciting to witness the discovery of his artistic talent and we look forward to seeing how he continues to build his artistic legacy.
