SUMMARY:Transcending Boundaries at Kean University
DESCRIPTION:Transcending Boundaries: The Artist at Work\, presented by the Galleries at Kean\, will feature paintings\, sculptures\, and poetry by the Matheny Arts Access artists. The exhibition will be on display from February 9 through May 1\, 2026 in the Liberty Hall Academic Center Gallery at Kean University. \nAt the heart of Transcending Boundaries is the idea that art functions as a universal language\, one that extends beyond speech\, culture\, and physical ability. The exhibition celebrates the originality\, authenticity\, and curiosity that define each artist’s practice. \nThis exhibition is part of a series of collaborations throughout 2026 between Matheny Arts Access and Kean University. \nPlan your trip to view the exhibit\nVisit galleries.kean.edu to select the exhibition you’d like to attend and reserve your spot in advance. Walk-ins are also welcome; tickets can be processed on-site by a Galleries docent. All exhibitions at the Galleries at Kean University are pay-as-you-wish\, making art accessible for everyone. Regular operating hours for the Galleries are Monday through Friday from 10 am to 4 pm. Gallery visits outside of regular operating hours can be arranged upon request. Please email galleries@kean.edu to schedule a visit. \nAn opening reception will take place on February 17\, from 5-7 pm.

SUMMARY:Plays By People 2026 - at Kean University
DESCRIPTION:Plays By People is an annual performance presented in collaboration with Premiere Stages at Kean University. The event features staged readings of dramatic works by the Matheny Arts Access playwrights\, performed by actors from Premiere Stages. \nThis year’s featured work includes: \n“Deadly Vapors” by Christopher Saglimbene is a dark origin story about power\, betrayal\, and the making of a legend. After a mysterious trip with his father leads to betrayal\, a young boy named Tomas is taken by the secretive Lin-Kuei clan and forced into a life of brutal training. Under the guidance of a reluctant mentor\, he discovers a powerful ability to vanish into smoke. When the truth about his past is revealed\, Tomas must confront the man who sold him and decide what kind of warrior he will become. \n“Space Odyssey” by Amy Myers is a series of poignant monologues featuring the perspectives of three individuals—Steve\, Jamie\, and Amy. Steve longs for a celestial escape where he can be free from name-calling and the physical toll of a world recovering from illness. For Jamie\, the Moon represents a sanctuary of “aspirations” where the imperfections and “rushed” nature of daily life simply fade away. Meanwhile\, Amy dreams of a space where wheelchairs are unnecessary and families can be whole again\, free from the constraints of complicated realities. Together\, their voices weave a moving portrait of the human need for a “calming area”—a place where\, despite life’s challenges\, everyone can finally get along. \n\nPerformance Schedule\nSaturday\, March 14 at 3 pm – Kean University in Union\, NJ\nSaturday\, March 28 at 3 pm – Matheny in Peapack\, NJ \nThis event is free\, but registration is required.
